Aquinas Looks To Join CCWHA D1 Ranks

September 27, 2017 – The Saints of Aquinas look to move from CCWHA Division 2, up to Division 1 after a preliminary 2017-18 season playing against Division 1 opponents. They have joined the ACHA Division 1 league for the 2017-18 season as well.

The 2017 CCWHA D1 Champions are the Miami University Redhawks! This is their 4th straight visit to the championship game and their 3rd win in 4 years. Congratulations Redhawks!

CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: Michigan State vs. Miami

SOUTH BEND, IN. – The Division 2 CCWHA Division 1 championship game is set to have the No. 6 seed, Michigan State University, against the No. 2 seed, Miami University. Puck drop is set for 1 pm at Compton Ice Arena.

MIAMI/OHIO STATE – The 8-2 Redhawks took on Ohio State in one of the final league series of the season. With two wins, 5-2 and 3-2, Miami continues to be tied with Adrian for first place in Division 1. The Buckeyes got out early into a 2-0 lead over the defending National Champions. Molly Arntson and Brittany Brandon with the goals, while Courtney Trudeau tallied the only assist in the game for Ohio State. 8:27 into the second period, the Miami offensive begun. Kathleen Baldwin made it a 2-1 game after passes from Amanda Pugliest and Sarah Peterson. Two minutes, exactly, later, it was a 2-2 tie thanks to Kaley Mooney. Pugliese and Peterson with the assists again. Jordan Hanson got the game-winner and her first of the game to finish out the second period scoring. Pugliese with her third assist on the power play Hanson goal. K. Mooney put her second of the night in at the 5:48 mark in the third before Hanson also tallied her second of the game. Hanson’s second goal also came on the power play, with assists from Izzy Smith and K. Mooney. Rachel Damrath was in net for Miami, making 17 saves on 19 shots faced while Selena Hunter stopped 32 of 37 shots for Ohio State.

MICHIGAN/OHIO STATE – The two rivals went head-to-head in a league series, with Michigan grabbing two wins, 2-0 and 4-0. In Saturday’s 4-0 win, Caroline Hurd, Megan Kerr, Lia Harrington, and Sarah Girard grabbed the goals. The assists came from Morgan Baird, Carolyn Andonian, Clare Mcmanaman, Karrie Inman and Hurd. In net for Ohio State was Emily Ciborek, who made 35 saves on 39 attempts while Bailey Hamill was in net for Michigan stopping 13 of 13 shots on net.

ADRIAN/OHIO STATE – The Bulldogs traveled south for a league series with Ohio State University. Adrian picked up two 6-0 wins for the sweep and to improve to 10-0 in CCWHA play to stay at the top of the standings and 15-2 overall. The Buckeyes sit at 0-10 in CCWHA play and 0-11-1 in total play.

ROBERT MORRIS/MICHIGAN –  The first league series of the new year had the Eagles hosting the Wolverines, with Michigan coming out on top in both games, 3-2 and 4-1. Friday’s game had Robert Morris with the first goal from Bria Berggren. The lone goal in the first period came after a pass from Allyson Zachwieja. Michigan tied the game with a Carolyn Andonian goal after a pass from Sarah Girard at the 14:36 mark in the second. Makaila Anderson made sure that RMU had the lead going into the second break of the game with two minutes to play in the second. Emily Urban had the assist on the Anderson goal. Ania Dow brought the score to 2-2 two minutes into the final period of play after a Rachel Hysong pass. The game-winning-goal came off the stick of Lia Harrington after help from Madelyn McEachern. In net for Michigan, Bailey Hamill made 22 saves on 24 shots faced while Lauren Yomantas was between the pipes for Robert Morris making 27 saves on 30 shots on goal.
