Hayley Williams (Miami University – D1) made CCWHA and ACHA history when she joined the Buffalo Beauts of the NWHL earlier this month. Williams is one of the first club hockey players to ever sign a professional hockey contract. Hayley’s hockey story
is interesting, to say the least and includes a three year gap from the ice. Hayley first joined the CCWHA as a member of the Robert Morris Eagles in 2013. This was her first time in a competitive uniform since leaving Bemjidi State University (NCAA Division 1) in 2010. Williams racked up an impressive 46 points (21 G, 25 A) in just 17 games during the 2013-2014 season leading both the Eagles as well as the entire CCWHA in points per game. While at RMU, she was selected to play in the World University Games for Team USA and was elected as an Assistant Captain. Hayley then went on to join the Miami University Redhawks for the 2014-2015 season and was again selected to serve as an Assistant Captain for Team USA at the World University Games.
On August 7, 2015, Hayley Williams signed with the Buffalo Beauts and will take part in the inaugural season of the National Women’s Hockey League. The CCWHA is incredibly proud of Hayley and all of her accomplishments! We will be watching as her career progresses throughout the next several seasons. Good luck Hayley!
Congratulations to the Miami Redhawks on their 2nd Consecutive CCWHA Championship! The Redhawks also won this honor in 2014 and were the Regular-Season champions in both 2014 and 2015. Congratulations to Miami University and good luck at Nationals!
Congratulations to the following players who were voted to this years’ All-Season teams! These teams are voted on and selected by the CCWHA coaches and reflect the individuals who have shown consistent excellence on the ice during the 2014-2015 regular season. Congratulations to all!
Congratulations to Miami University on their 2nd straight CCWHA Division I Regular Season Championship!! The Redhawks have posted an impressive 11-0-1 undefeated record this season* including 6 games in which they allowed 0 Goals Against. Junior Hayley Williams and Sophomore Rachael Booth lead the team in total points with 15 and 14pts respectively. The Redhawks have a pair of young, but certainly not inexperienced, goaltenders. Freshman Carly VanOrden and Sophomore Emalee Wills have allowed only 10 goals against this season and each have earned 3 shutouts along the way. Head Coach Scott Hicks has led his team on a very impressive 2-season winning streak with the Redhawks not losing a game since October 18, 2013 when they fell to Grand Valley 3-1.
Miami may have already clinched the Regular Season Championship, but they are not done yet. They will head to Flint, MI next weekend to face off against the Michigan State Spartans in their last Regular Season series of the season. After that, they will start the CCWHA Championship series off with a bye in the 1st round and then will take on the winner of seeds #4 and #5 on Friday at 1pm at Flint Iceland Arena.
*this only includes games through 2/8/15

The CCWHA is extremely excited to announce that 13 players from our league have been selected to represent the United States at the 2015 World University Games in Granada, Spain! This will be the 3rd time that the U.S. will field a women’s team at the event, sending delegates to Turkey in 2011 and Italy in 2013. In 2011, the U.S. team finished in 4th place and in 2013, the women (including 11 CCWHA players) brought home the Bronze medal after defeating Japan 3-1 in the Bronze Medal game.
The USA women’s team will open play at the WUG on February 5, 2015 against China at Mulhacen Pavilion in Granada, Spain. The full roster is listed below with CCWHA players listed in red. Miami University’s Scott Hicks was also named as an Assistant Coach earlier this year. Congratulations to all!

With only 2 games on the schedule in December, there wasn’t much room for movement in the CCWHA standings before the end of the semester. The Miami Redhawks, however, weren’t going to go away quietly until January resting comfortably in 2nd place. With two big wins this weekend over Robert Morris, Miami has re-claimed the 1st place throne from GVSU.
CCWHA Division 1 will now take a break until January for final exams and holiday celebrations. When we return in January, the battle for the CCWHA Regular-Season Championship will be in full-swing with 18 games on the schedule. Until then, good luck with finals and have a great holiday season!
There were two rather important 2-game series this weekend: #1 Grand Valley v. Davenport and undefeated Miami v. Adrian.
After 2 games and a flurry of Laker shots at the Panther net, Grand Valley came out victorious with 4 points over the Davenport Panthers. The first game was a well-fought battle that remained tied throughout much of the game until GVSU’s #4 Corey Robinson put one past Victoria Smishek with 4:49 left in the game, ultimately securing GVSU the 1-0 win. The next day, both teams came out flying again but it didn’t take as long for the Lakers to get on the score board when #18 Katie Danto put one in the back of the net just 2 minutes into the game. Halfway through the 2nd period, Kristin Ianuzzi sealed the deal with goal #2. Grand Valley now takes the lead in the CCWHA with 13 points. They Lakers hope to hold onto this lead until they resume CCWHA play next semester.
Meanwhile down in Ohio, another close battle was brewing. The Adrian Bulldogs traveled to the home of the undefeated Miami Redhawks, Goggin Ice Arena. The first game went to OT to attempt to find a victor, but even after 65 full minutes of play, the teams remained deadlocked at 1 and ended the Miami winning streak. Redhawks goal was scored by #10 Rachael Booth and Adrian’s goal was put in by Jacqueline Lough. The next day, a determined Miami team came back to Goggin ready for retribution. Adrian got on the board first with a goal early in the 1st period, but Miami was not far behind. A 1-period hat-trick by Miami’s Hayley Williams in the 2nd period had the Redhawks up 4-1 by the end of the 2nd. Adrian and Miami exchanged a pair of goals in the 3rd period, bu ultimately the fate of the game was sealed: Miami won 5-2, keeping their undefeated streak intact.
Welcome back CCWHA fans!! After a grueling delay and an enormous number of hours poured into a new website, I am pleased to announce that our new site is…. not ready. We will be returning to our old site for the foreseeable future. Although we tried to get the new site done by the start of the season, it does not appear that the hosting company the CCWHA was working with will be able to fix the problems in the immediate future. Thus, the CCWHA has decided to continue to maintain this site until we can migrate at an undetermined date in the future.
So here we are, it’s October! This year, the CCWHA is pleased to welcome our brand new Division II!! The CCWHA will continue to operate as we have in the past, but will now be split into the two divisions. Division I teams remain the same as last year with the exception that Northern Michigan and Central Michigan have moved to Division II to join Lake Superior State, Michigan State DII, Loyola University-Chicago and Notre Dame University! Please join us in welcoming these teams to our CCWHA family!
The main site (www.ccwha.net) will take you to a page where you will need to choose your division. If you’d like to update your bookmarks to come to the D1 site directly, that page is now located at www.d1.ccwha.net. Please also update your twitter to follow us at ccwha_D1. We will update the Facebook page soon as well.
We are already 2 games into the year and extremely excited to see what this season has in store for us! Stay tuned to this site for all of the latest CCWHA updates!(photo credit: http://elevenwarriors.com/)
